Pools and holiday parks among range of Tweed facilities set to reopen!

Tweed residents can rejoice, with the announcement that a range of facilities are finally set to reopen to the public after being shut due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Some of the facilities set to swing open their doors next month include Tweed aquatic centres like the Kingscliff outdoor pool, holiday parks, museums and libraries.

It comes following the recent reopening of skate parks, playgrounds, public barbecues, outdoor exercise equipment and beach carparks.

Mayor of Tweed, Katie Milne, said the facilities would reopen in line with the NSW Government’s announcement of the relaxation of restrictions, while also bearing in mind local circumstances and operational requirements.

“The community will no doubt appreciate that reopening is more complex than closing the doors,” Councillor Milne said.

“Safety is our priority and a number of our visitors, staff and volunteers are vulnerable, so we are putting measures in place to keep them as safe as possible and this has taken a little extra time.”

Cr Milne said while opening dates are being announced now to assist the public with planning, members of the community need to be aware that things could change at any minute.

“Council will work to comply with any new government regulations as they are updated and this may require changes to procedures at the facilities and potentially changes to opening dates at short notice,” she said.

Monday 1 June – Tweed Regional Aquatic Centres (Kingscliff outdoor pool, bookings essential – available Friday; Murwillumbah, squads only)
Wednesday 3 June – Tweed Regional Gallery (bookings essential)
Wednesday 3 June – Tip Shop at Stotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre (number limits on entry)
Friday 5 June – Tweed Holiday Parks
Tuesday 30 June – Tweed Regional Museum Murwillumbah (bookings essential)
Wednesday 1 July – Richmond-Tweed Regional Library branches at Tweed Heads, Kingscliff and Murwillumbah
Wednesday 1 July – Community centres at Banora Point and Tweed Heads South, Kingscliff Hall, South Sea Islander Room and Tweed Heads Auditorium
Tuesday 15 September – Tweed Regional Museum Tweed Heads.

Council is also working towards the reopening of customer service centres at Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads, however the date for this has not yet been revealed.

“Many thanks to our community members who have been very patient and understanding while waiting for these important community facilities to reopen,” Cr Milne said.

“Together, we have once again shown that our community is resilient and caring and although we might be entering a ‘new normal’, it’s even more important than ever that we maintain concerted COVID safe practices.”

Anyone wishing to attend any of the above facilities once they are reopened is being urged to check with the facility’s website, as bookings may be essential.
