Coronavirus death toll in every one of Liverpool's 60 neighbourhoods

An area of south Liverpool has seen one of the highest number of deaths from coronavirus in the UK outside London.

New data from the Office for National Statistics shows deaths registered by April 18 for deaths between March 1 and April 17 where coronavirus "was the underlying cause or was mentioned on the death certificate as a contributory factor".

Within Liverpool there are striking disparities in where has been hit hardest by coronavirus, with the ONS breaking down the data for 60 separate areas across the city.

Aigburth and Grassendale was one of the hardest hit areas outside of London, registering the highest number of deaths in the North West of England.

Twenty people in the neighbourhood were known to have died from coronavirus up to April 18.

Other areas in the south of the city were also hit hard, with Hunts Cross, Wavertree and Woolton together losing 35 residents to coronavirus during the same period.

To the north, Croxteth, Broad Green and Vauxhall have both been hit hard.

The figures do not account for deaths registered in the region after mid-April, so a more recent tally is not yet available at a local level.
