I'm A Celebrity bosses 'in crisis talks over future of show' due to coronavirus

The upcoming series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! is in doubt as ITV bosses discuss the future of the show amid the coronavirus crisis.

Coronavirus restrictions have made it difficult to plan for the forthcoming series, which is hosted by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

Australia currently has a two week quarantine process for new arrivals to the country and there is also the issue of social distancing to take into consideration.

The Sun reports that one of the proposals being considered by ITV is employing a mostly Australian crew and leave British members behind in a bid to minimise the risk to all those involved.

A source told the publication: “I’m A Celebrity is six months away but bosses are holding meetings about how they can ensure it still goes ahead in the current climate.

“A raft of measures are being looked at."

The use of "95 per cent" Australian crew would overcome quarantine issues and those that normally fly Down Under are thinking they may miss out this time, as "ITV are having to seriously consider every option."

Every outcome is being planned for as the Covid-19 situation is constantly changing and there are fears of a second peak after lockdown restrictions have been lifted.

The insider continued: "It’s such a ratings hit, so they’ll do everything possible to make sure it goes on air.

"But the safety and welfare of their teams is the priority at all times.”

The trials and tribulations of jungle life have averaged more than 10 million viewers per episode and is one of the channel's flagship shows.

The current Queen of the Jungle is former EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa, who beat US reality star Caitlyn Jenner, among others, to the title.
