Safdie Brothers Turn to Television With First-Look HBO Deal
A24 will be executive producing the future TV projects.
by Torsten IngvaldsenThe Safdie Brothers, the famed filmmaking duo behind cult favorites Uncut Gems and Good Time, are focusing their attention on television. Benny and Josh Safdie and their Elara Pictures production company have signed a two-year first-look deal with HBO. As part of the newly-struck deal, former Paramount and Chernin Entertainment executive Dani Bernfeld will be joining Elara Pictures as a partner to help produce film and TV projects.
A24 will also be joining in on the deal and will executive produce all projects during the two-year period, equally partnering with Elara on select projects outside of the HBO first-look deal. A24 currently works with the network on hit series Euphoria, producing both the first and second seasons.
The duo recently shared the Best Director award at the Independent Spirit Awards earlier this year for their Adam Sandler-starring hit Uncut Gems. The film is currently streaming on Netflix.
