
Samsung Launches Exynos 880 SoC For The Mid-Range Smartphone Market
by John LawSamsung recently launched the Exynos 880 SoC, a mobile chipset the brand has designed for the mid-range market. More importantly, it’s also a chipset that is capable of delivering 5G speeds, albeit of the sub-6GHz spectrum.
Specs-wise, the Exynos 880 is based on an 8nm die lithography, houses an octa-core CPU, running in a 2+6 configuration, with the two Cortex-A77 running at 2.0GHz. While the remaining six are Cortex-A55 running at 1.8GHz. It also comes with a Mali-G76 GPU and Samsung’s Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

As mentioned before, the Exynos 880 is a 5G chipset with support for the sub-6GHz spectrum. Technically speaking, the module is capable of supporting download and upload speeds of up to 2.55Gbps and 1.28Gbps respectively.
Other technical details include support for a smartphone with a Full HD+ display, the LPDDR4x memory standard, UFS 2.1 and eMMC 5.1 storage, along with the ability to support a single 64MP or dual 20MP main camera. Among other possible configurations.

As for its deployment, you’ll be surprised to hear that the Eyxnos 880 has already been deployed in, of all devices, Vivo’s upcoming y70s 5G. Spec-wise, the phone sports a 6.53inch Full HD+ LCD punch hole display, while its main triple camera module comprises a 48MP main, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP depth sensor. Software-wise, the phone uses Vivo’s FunTouchOS 10 which is based Android 10.

The Vivo Y70s is expected to go on sale in China first, starting 1 June. The phone will be available in two memory and storage configurations: 6GB+128GB at 1998 Yuan (~RM1219) and 8GB+128GB for 2198 Yuan (~RM1341). At the time of writing, there is no local availability or pricing.
