Tyrone Mings opens up about pressure and mental health in new BBC One documentary
by Alex MilneAston Villa defender Tyrone Mings will appear in a new BBC documentary entitled 'Football, Prince William and our Mental Health.'
The programme, which airs this Thursday at 8.05pm on BBC One, follows HRH The Duke of Cambridge as he attempts to reduce the stigma around mental health through the prism of football.
As well as Mings, the likes of Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart and Chelsea manager Frank Lampard will discuss their experiences, while former Premier League footballer Marvin Sordell opens up about his struggles with depression
The film will also tell the stories of men from across the country who have been affected by mental health issues.
During the programme, at a Heads Up event for footballers, players and mental health campaigners, Mings opened up to one of the other guests about how he looks after his mental health.
He said "It’s a difficult one because nobody really cares about if you have a bad day, nobody really cares if you might be having a problem mentally or a problem physically or you’ve got problems at home, or you can’t carry that into a game because you only really get judged on your performance.
"So I pay a psychologist to help me throughout the week….I found that throughout my injury and stuff that was the thing that helped me."
The programme will build on the conversation started in the BBC One film from 2019, A Royal Team Talk, where The Duke met with well-known faces from the world of football for an extraordinarily candid conversation about the importance of men’s mental health and mental fitness.
Football, Prince William and Our Mental Health airs this Thursday at 8.05pm on BBC One.
