Pedestrian hit by train in Tawa, Wellington

A train has collided with a pedestrian in the Wellington suburb of Tawa.

Police received a report of the incident at 12:55pm on Wednesday.

In a statement, a police spokesperson confirmed the person was hit at a level crossing near the intersection of Hinau Street and McClellan Street. 

Emergency services are at the scene and cordons are in place.

All Kapiti line trains from Porirua to Wellington are currently suspended. The staff member involved has automatically been stood down and will be given counselling and support.
