On 22nd May, Sanatan Deka was lynched to death by Faizul Haque and friends for selling vegetables in a Muslim majority area near Guwahati during Ramzan. 38 yr old Deka was forced to sell vegetables to make a living as the factory where he worked was shut due to lockdown. Faizul Haque and his accomplices picked up a fight with him over a trivial matter and later murdered him. Deka who was the sole breadwinner for his family leaves behind his wife, aged parents and a child.

Now, a crowdfunding campaign has been initiated to support the poor family members of Sanatan Deka. The campaign aims to raise 30 lakhs in 19 days through the CrowdKash portal. Link to campaign page -> https://www.crowdkash.com/campaign/366/supportsanatandeka

The campaign appeal says that Santan Deka’s death is not just a simple Mob attack but an attack on the sustainable Native Economy. 'A brief trace back to the past few decades, the Local markets have been captured by the miscreants with sporadic incidents of violence and attacks on indigenous people whenever an indigenous native tried to start his own venture', says the campaign appeal.

The appeal page further says that Deka, a self respecting individual, believed in hard earned money and had taken to organic farming in a bid to being self dependent. This too may have triggered the mob violence as the hegemony of Bangladeshi migrant was challenged by this meek looking Sanatan.

"This is not just a economic support but an initiative to stand united - with our own people. We can’t allow miscreants to take control over our economy or our life. We need your help to Revive and Restore Sanatan Deka’s family's Belief in our Sanatan Dharma!", says the appeal.
