Some Members of Parliament (MPs) have opted to undergo private testing for coronavirus instead of what Parliament House is offering for them and other staff.
The Member of Parliament for Bia East Constituency in the Western North Region, Richard Acheampong, who revealed this, explained that some of the members fear the leaking of their results to the media should they test positive hence the decision to do private testing.
The MP made the revelation on Onua TV’s Maakye hosted by Bright Kwasi Asempa on Wednesday while reacting to the alleged reports of some MPs and staff testing positive for the virus.
Parliament has since denied the reports
Mr. Acheampong said some MPs have opted to do the test elsewhere because “we are going into elections and if someone brings such a matter out, it will be bad for that MP”.
He said: “I have tested but most of my colleagues are doing private testing. You saw me receive calls few minutes ago. It was one of my colleagues who wanted to know how the testing processes go and I explained to him and encouraged him to go and do the testing but most of them want to do it privately.”
