Hyderabad: Uncertainty prevails over this year’s annual Bonalu festival, with cases of Covid-19 continuing to get reported in the State.

The Bonalu festival is scheduled to commence with the offering of ‘Bonam’ at the ancient Sri Jagadamba Temple atop Golconda fort on June 25 while the main Bonalu festival is scheduled to be organised at Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple, Secunderabad on July 12 and 13.

However, with all religious activity prohibited in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, there is a question mark over the conduct of this year’s Bonalu in Hyderabad.

On Wednesday, members of Bhagyanagar Sri Mahankali Jathara Bonala Utsavala Ummadi Devalayala Uregimpu Committee met Animal Husbandry Minister, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and submitted a memorandum.

Interacting with the members, the Minister said a decision would be taken on organising the celebrations at a meeting to be convened with the committee members and Endowments Department officials on June 10.

“We will take into consideration all suggestions given by the members and officials before taking a final decision on the celebrations,” the Minister added.
