No fingerprint for degree admissions: DOST
The decision to remove the biometric thumb impression system was taken by authorities concerned as a precautionary measure against Covid-19
by TelanganaTodayHyderabad: In view of the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, the biometric fingerprint system for degree admissions through the Degree Online Services, Telangana (DOST) has been done away with this year.
The decision to remove the biometric thumb impression system was taken by authorities concerned as a precautionary measure against Covid-19. The DOST notification for admissions to various conventional degrees courses offered by the universities in State is likely to be released in the first week of June. This time, students can enroll for admission even if their mobile number is not linked with the Aadhaar card. However, they need to feed in Aadhaar details in their online application form.
Apart from SMS, students will be getting regular updates and alerts on their registered mobile number through the DOST WhatsApp business number 7901002200. This time, students seeking degree admission can also access details through the DOST Facebook page (facebook.com/dost.telangana/) and DOST Twitter handle twitter.com/dost_telangana.
“In view of the present situation, we have made some changes to the admissions like removal of biometric fingerprint system apart from enabling students to enrol without Aadhaar linked mobile number. We have come up with new ways like WhatsApp, Facebook page and Twitter account to alert and update students with regards to degree admissions. The DOST notification will be issued after intermediate results are announced,” a senior official said.
