Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will conduct Chandi Yagam, Sudarshan Yagam, Gangamma puja and other rituals, marking the inauguration of Konda Pochamma Sagar in Siddipet district on Friday. He will release water from Konda Pochamma Sagar to pump Godavari River water to the highest level, in the presence of Sri Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy.

At 4 am on Friday, Chandi Yagam will be performed in Konda Pochamma temple and Sudarshan Yagam at Konda Pochamma Sagar pump house simultaneously. The Chief Minister along with his wife will offer special puja at Konda Pochamma temple, which is 30 Kms distance from the project. They will participate in the Poornahuthi as part of the Chandi Yagam. After obtaining blessings of Vedic scholars, they will reach their farmhouse at Erravelli.

Chandrashekhar Rao will inaugurate Rythu Vedikas at Erravelli and Markook after 9 am, before heading to the pump house, which lifts water to Konda Pochamma Sagar at Markook. He will welcome Sri Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy who will reach the venue at 10 am, followed by participating in the Porrnahuthi programme of the Sudarshan Yagam. Later, he will switch on the pumps and also visit the Project Discharge Canal to welcome the Godavari waters. He will perform Gangamma puja to the Godavari River. He will bid farewell to the Jeeyar Swamy, following which he will have lunch with specially invited guests.

Konda Pochamma Sagar was named after Konda Pochamma temple which is on the borders of erstwhile Medak, Warangal and Nalgonda districts. Along with Komuravelli Mallikarjuna Swamy (Mallanna) temple in the vicinity, devotees visit both the temples. This is precisely the reason, why Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao named the biggest reservoir constructed under Kaleswaram project as Mallanna Sagar, and the reservoir constructed on the highest point as Konda Pochamma Sagar. The project will fulfill the water needs of people towards irrigation and drinking water purposes. Considering the project as a temple, the Chief Minister directed the officials to make necessary arrangements for its inauguration amidst chanting of vedic hymns.

The water will be lifted from various stages from Laxmi Barrage at Medigadda and will be pumped into the Konda Pochamma Sagar which is at a heigh of 618 metres. The project which has a storage capacity of 15 tmc, will pump water to hitherto arid lands which had no irrigation facility till date.
