by

Hyderabad: The water management policy in Rajanna Sircilla district is becoming a benchmark for others to follow. The transformational journey of Rajanna Sircilla district from being a drought-hit region to a water surplus district, will now be a topic of study for trainee IAS officers at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie.

The LBS National Academy of Administration asked the Rajanna Sircilla district officials to document the developmental activities and send them all details in this regard. The best policies and governance models from across the world are taught to the trainee civil servants at the Academy. As part of the course, the water management programmes of Rajanna Sircilla district have been made study models for the trainee officers. The course includes irrigation projects, Mission Kakatiya, lakes maintenance, harvesting pits, and farm ponds.

The water table in the district increased to six meters with the government implementing several developmental programmes specifically in water management. The district has already received prestigious awards at the national level in the past five years under the NREGA, water management and cleanliness categories among others. Several scholars and bureaucrats from across the country are also showing interest in visiting the district to study the development activities.

On coming to know about the decision of the LBS National Academy of Administration, Municipal Administration Minister and Sircilla MLA KT Rama Rao expressed happiness and thanked the authorities of the National Academy for introducing Rajanna Sircilla district as a model in their studies.

The Minister said that Telangana’s policies and models were winning laurels across the country. He recalled a statement made by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao that the water projects of Telangana State will become topics of research for many years to come, which was now turning into a reality.

Rama Rao said the irrigation infrastructure of Rajanna Sircilla district started bearing fruits and the government will soon come up with an action plan to take optimum advantage of these projects, to transform the district into a role model for others in future. He said new recreational activities will be developed near the water bodies. He also said that lakes in all the villages will be further interconnected with the water streams to ensure good water levels throughout the year.
