Newcastle United want Liverpool's Xherdan Shaqiri?

Newcastle United are reportedly weighing up a move for Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

The former Stoke City man has failed to hold down a regular spot in Jurgen Klopp's starting XI since his arrival - being restricted to just six Premier League outings this term.

Shaqiri's contract in Merseyside is set to run until the summer of 2023, but the Reds would supposedly be willing to part ways with the Swiss international in order to fund a move for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle have already made contact with Shaqiri's representatives over a potential deal, with the Magpies expected to splash the cash should the proposed Saudi-backed takeover go through soon.

The report also claims that Liverpool are likely to free up several spaces in their squad to balance the books in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, with Adam Lallana also expected to depart Anfield this summer.

Shaqiri has amassed seven goals from 40 appearances for Liverpool since 2018.
