MIUI 12 now features selective, free-shape screen capture to make live easier on the Xiaomi Mi 9T, Redmi K20 Pro and other devices

The latest update to MIUI 12 adds a very handy selective screenshot feature. Users on the latest nightly build on the Xiaomi Mi 9T and Redmi K20 Pro will be able to free-select screenshot areas while taking screenshots.

The most recent nightly build of MIUI 12 adds in a very handy new feature on supported devices like the Xiaomi Mi 9T: free-select screenshots.

A video of an earlier internal development build of MIUI 12 shows the feature in action: After a three-finger tap, users will be able to choose between taking a rectangular, circular, or free-form screenshot.

This means that MIUI 12 users can select exactly those parts of the screen they want to capture, making it simple to crop out extraneous detail. Other operating systems, like iOS 13 on the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max, allow users to rotate and crop screenshots, but after they've been taking full-screen and without anywhere near the granular control showcased in the MIUI 12 internal development build video.

MIUI 12 is set to roll out on select devices in June. The Redmi K20 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 9T have already received the update. Other Xiaomi and Redmi-branded devices will receive the update in the weeks and months to come.
