OnePlus reportedly working on a barrage of affordable products including mid-range smartphones
by Anil SatyanarayanaOnePlus CEO Pete Lau stated that the company wants to get back to its roots as an affordable gadget provider. We can expect to see a host of reasonably-priced OnePlus gadgets and smartphones on the market soon. It is all part of a plan to create a wider ecosystem centered on the OnePlus brand.
OnePlus has come a long way since its humble origins as an industry upstart. A long time ago, the company made affordable phones, and watching it become the very beast it promised to slay is a tad unsettling. However, we could see OnePlus returning to its roots as an affordable solutions provider, if a series of Weibo posts by Pete Lau is to be believed.
Although there was no definitive timeline mentioned, Pete said that OnePlus was working on a range of affordable smartphones. Interestingly, OnePlus is the only Android OEM that only focuses on flagship releases. The company has dabbled with mid-rangers in the past with OnePlus X. There's an OnePlus Z in the works, too, as evidenced by the several leaks surrounding it. Pete's verbiage indicated that the company's plans extend beyond the OnePlus, well into the next few years at least.
OnePlus has already established itself in several markets across the globe. Its devices are well renowned among the community for impeccable software support and lively development scene. Additionally, the company has also established an entire gadget ecosystem ranging from smart TVs to wireless earbuds, and mid-range smartphones will fit right into it.
