The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are the first phones to get Fortnite at 90fps
by Deirdre O'DonnellOnePlus has announced a new deal with Epic Games, by which the OEM's current flagship 8 series will be the first mobile devices to be able to play the runaway hit Fortnite at 90 frames per second (fps). The game will do so through the medium of Unreal Engine. Furthermore, some older OnePlus phones will be able to run this app at 60fps.
Epic Games has announced that, thanks to Unreal Engine-based optimizations, Fortnite for mobile can now run at up to 90fps. However, this new option will start out as an exclusive to the OnePlus 8 series, leaving other phones with 90Hz displays (or higher) in the lurch at present.
This new mode has been launched in India, as well as another new aspect of the collaboration between this OEM and Epic. It is a new way to install Fortnite, through a 1-button interface found in OnePlus' GameSpace. This is a specialized area within the OxygenOS UI, possibly inspired by others exhibited by gaming phone brands such as Black Shark.
On that note, OnePlus has also added the ability to run Fortnite at 60fps, but only to its 7T and 7 lines of 2019 flagships. As for older, yet still serviceable premium devices from this brand, they have been left at the standard rate for now, at least.
