Xiaomi Redmi Smart TV X55 has its price slashed before launch to match the 55-inch Honor Vision X1 Smart TV

by

The Redmi Smart TV X55 from Xiaomi has had its price considerably slashed ahead of going on sale. The new price tag for the television is 1,699 yuan (US$237). This puts the Redmi Smart TV X55, which features a 4K screen and 32 GB storage, at the same price as the just launched 55-inch rival Honor Vision X1 Smart TV.

Xiaomi is playing hardball with the competition when it comes to new smart televisions. The Redmi Smart TV X55 has only just been announced and was expected to be priced at 2,299 yuan (US$321). However, Redmi manager Lu Weibing has now revealed that the must-have smart home accessory has been reduced by 600 yuan (US$84) to wield a very attractive price tag of 1,699 yuan (US$237).

This is a considerable amount of money to discount a brand-new product by, but it seems Xiaomi wants to challenge the competition in this particular space. The Redmi Smart TV X55 will be up against the popular 55-inch Vision X1 Smart TV from Honor, which is part of a new series of smart televisions from Huawei that have been selling well since they were launched earlier this month. The Honor TV was also recently reduced from 2,299 yuan to 1,699 yuan.

The Xiaomi Redmi Smart TV X55 offers a metal frame design and is equipped with 4x 12.5 W speakers that support Dolby sound. Along with the 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB storage, the now much cheaper X55 offers consumers a 4K screen that utilizes MEMC technology for a smoother picture. With this giant price cut, Xiaomi seems determined in attracting younger customers with less disposable income to make a purchase of the smart TV, which will be available from June 10.
