Apple finally lets Indian users custom configure MacBooks and Mac Pros

by

Apple is finally allowing Indian customers to purchase customized, configure-to-build Mac and MacBook variants. This move gives Indian Mac buyers much-needed flexibility in terms of RAM, storage, and CPU/GPU configurations.

Signaling the strategic importance of one of the world's largest mobile and PC markets, Apple is finally allowing Indian customers to request configure-to-order and build-to-order Macs and MacBooks. Earlier, Indian customers could only choose from a selection of preconfigured options. This means that users with specific needs (e.g. more RAM but without a high-end graphics card) were left out in the cold.

Customers can reach out to authorized Apple resellers to avail the configure-to-order service. However, it might take as long as five weeks for orders to be fulfilled, understandable in the current COVID-19 environment.

The move comes alongside a number of other India-friendly Apple decisions over the past few months. Apple is set to introduce it's very first physical retail store in the country soon. Moreover, Apple may be looking to move as much as US$ 40 billion worth of business over to India from China in the months and years to come. In the here and now, though, enabling configure-to-order is a welcome move and should give Apple customers in India greater flexibility.
