Potential Grand Theft Auto 6 release date leaks: GTA VI might arrive in 2023 per Take-Two's marketing forecast

by

Take-Two's 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission offers strong hints about Grand Theft Auto 6's release timeframe. The downside? PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X owners might have to wait a couple years for the title.

A possible release timeframe for Grand Theft Auto 6 has been identified, based on Take-Two's Form 10-K filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

According to the 10-K, Take-Two (Rockstar's parent company), will substantially increase its marketing budget in FY 2024. At US$89.2 million the FY 2024 budget is over seven times as high as Take-Two's committed budget for FY 2021. It's also over twice as high as the committed budget for any fiscal year in the five year period between FY 2021 and FY 2025.

Considering that Grand Theft Auto 6 is indeed the next project Rockstar's working on after Red Dead Redemption 2, these numbers strongly indicate that Grand Theft Auto 6 will release sometime between April 2023 and March 2024, an entire decade after Grand Theft Auto V.

Based on what we know about Grand Theft Auto 6, including rumors that it'll take place across multiple cities, and considering just how much of a cash cow Grand Theft Auto 5 continues to be for Rockstar, FY 2023 seems like a reasonable timeframe for the latest edition of Grand Theft Auto.

While that might seem like a long wait, it's not all bad news. By 2023 or 2024, the eighth-gen consoles will likely be completely phased out, meaning that Rockstar's latest title will be able to leverage the full capabilities of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X
