9 deaths, 327 cases reported in district

Pune district on Tuesday reported nine deaths due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and 327 new cases. Of the deaths, six occurred late on Monday, taking the toll to 291, and positive cases to 6,480, district health officials said.
Apart from this, 143 people were discharged from various hospitals after successful treatment from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries in the district to 3,338, said Dr Ramchandra Hankare, health chief, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Of the new cases, 255 are from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, 40 from Pimpri-Chinchwad, 17 in rural areas and 15 from civil surgeon and cantonment board jurisdiction, said Dr Bhagwan Pawar, district health officer.
Four of the deaths were reported at Sassoon General Hospitals (SGH) while Sahyadri Hospital, Hadapsar, Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune, Poona Hospital and Yash Hospital reported one death each.
They include a 30-year-old female resident of Yerawada who died at SGH on Monday due to respiratory failure caused by acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). She also had hypertension and pneumonia. The second death reported from SGH was of a 76-year-old man from Nana Peth, who died late on Monday due to respiratory failure. He had pneumonia and pancreatitis along with heart and kidney ailments.
The third deceased was a 48-yearold woman, a resident of Camp, who died on Tuesday due to uremic encephalopathy, cardiogenic shock and pancreatitis. She had kidney failure, heart ailment and rheumatoid arthritis. A 67-year-old female resident of Hadapsar also died at SGH due to respiratory failure along with heart and kidney ailments. She was also suffering from pneumonia, diabetes, obesity and hypothyroidism.
At Yash Hospital, Hadapsar, the death of a 52-year-old man was reported on Monday. He died due to septic shock with ARDS. He was suffering from cellulitis of the lower limbs. A 41-year-old man, resident of Yerawada, died at Ruby Hall Clinic on Monday due to subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) with intraventricular extension with intraparenchymal bleeding. He also suffered from ARDS, hypertension, acute kidney injury (AKI) with septic shock.
The seventh death, reported from Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, was of a 48-year-old man from Nana Peth due to sepsis with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). He was suffering from pneumonia, diabetes and hypertension. Another 82-year-old male from Parvati died while undergoing treatment at Poona hospital due to ARDS with COVID-19 and was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and hypertension.
From Sahyadri Hospital, the death of a 52-year-old from Hadapsar was reported. She died due to ARDS with COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment since May 7. The deceased was also suffering from bilateral pneumonia and hypothyroidism, said Dr Hankare.
Meanwhile, 97 deaths were reported from across the state, taking the total death toll to 1,792. Of these, 35 deaths occurred in the last two days while 62 deaths occurred from April 17 to May 23, but were recorded on Tuesday. Out of these, 63 were men and 34 women. About 67 per cent of the fatalities had high-risk co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.
The case count in the state also grew by 2,091, taking the total number of cases to 54,758. The number of recoveries was also boosted by 1,168, taking the total number people discharged from hospital to 16,954. At present, the state has 36,004 active cases, said Dr Pradeep Awte, state surveillance officer.
