Brazilian Model Fernanda Liz Shares Her Little Black Book Of São Paulo
by Felicity CarterMiss Positive a.k.a Fernanda Liz is the Brazilian beauty that has not only graced magazine covers but the red carpet of Cannes too.
She may travel around the world for modelling work (she’s signed to Next Models Worldwide), but Brazil is her home country and so, she’s shared her favorite places in São Paulo. Be sure to bookmark these locations for post lockdown adventures.
Chill out place - Ibirapuera Park: It’s an excellent choice for anyone in the city looking for a relaxing environment close to nature. Besides its wonderful landscaping and architecture ,the latter designed by iconic Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, the unique thing about Ibirapuera is that such a beautiful island of nature and tranquility is located right in the middle of one of the world’s largest and busiest cities.
Address: Av. Pedro Álvares Cabral - Vila Mariana, São Paulo - SP, 04094-050, Brazil
For your hair/beauty - Spa Déia e Renata: The salon is very cute and inviting, all their treatments are natural-based to restore mass, nutrition and hydration. Everyone emerges energized, polished, and pretty.
Address: Rua Adolfo Tabacow, 173 - Itaim Bibi, São Paulo - SP, 01453-040, Brazil
Shop - Oscar Freire: Known as the most expensive street in Latin America and home to top-end international labels, Oscar Freire is perhaps not the first place that comes to mind when you’re talking about buying souvenirs (unless you are a very generous person indeed!) Despite being a lovely place to window shop and have an afternoon stroll, Oscar Freire does have one excellent souvenir-buying opportunity at the Havaianas flip-flop store.
Address: Havaianas, Rua Oscar Freire 1116, Jardins, São Paulo, Brazil
Culture - MASP MUSEUM: Contemplate the city’s most impressive art collection at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP), a colossal glass box suspended over the frenetic action of Avenida Paulista. Art-lovers can admire the works of old Spanish masters, French Impressionists and Brazilian Surrealists.
Address: Av. Paulista, 1578 - Bela Vista, São Paulo - SP, 01310-200, Brazil
Landmark - Mercado Municipal: Originally the city's very first grocery market, Mercadão first opened in 1933 and hosts around 300 stalls selling everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to spices, cheeses and sweets to meat and seafood.
I suggest taking advantage of the free samples available (vendors generously hand them out) and shopping around for the best price. The market gets exceptionally busy on the weekends.
Address: R. Cantareira, 306 - Centro Histórico de São Paulo, São Paulo - SP, 01024-900, Brazil
Book store - Livraria da Vila: Livraria da Vila not only sells books, CDs and DVDs, but holds cultural debates, children’s reading sessions and promotes the Reading Nourishes project, accepting donations of used books, which will be included in food baskets delivered to low income families around the country.
Address: R. Fradique Coutinho, 915 - Vila Madalena, São Paulo - SP, 05416-011, Brazil
Secret place - Jardim Botânico de São Paulo: A jungle in the heart of São Paulo reminds visitors of what Brazil looked like untouched by man.
Calm, green and refreshing, the city’s botanical garden, good place for afternoon strolls, picnics and great photos.
Address: Av. Miguel Estéfno, 3031 - Vila Água Funda, São Paulo - SP, 04301-902, Brazil
Most beautiful place - São Paulo Cathedral: The Neo-Gothic cathedral was built on the site of an earlier cathedral and took from 1913 to 1967 to complete. The church also boasts a beautiful marble interior and colorful stained-glass windows.
You can tour the crypt below the main church to see marble sculptures and tombs. The cathedral sits at the historic center of São Paulo, and is a good place to begin a walking tour of the old town.
Address: Praça da Sé - Sé, São Paulo - SP, 01001-000, Brazil
Your favorite place - The bohemian Vila Madalena: This neighbourhood is known for its indie fashion stores, casual cafes and contemporary art galleries. There’s vibrant street art throughout the area, particularly on Beco do Batman, an alley that’s become an open-air gallery for colorful stencils and murals. A hip crowd hangs out at the laid-back bistros and bars, and live music clubs host soul, funk and samba music.
Address: Neighborhood in Pinheiros, São Paulo - SP, Brazil
