As restless baseball card collectors wait for the game’s return, they have directed their attention towards baseball’s future stars in search of big dividends. Onyx Authenticated’s 2020 Vintage Baseball set captures a curated prospect group in a retro-inspired design that demands hobby attention.

The 32-card set features top-tier prospects Bobby Witt Jr. and Julio Rodriguez mixed in with major league sensations Gavin Lux, Gleyber Torres, and Ronald Acuña Jr. Onyx Authenticated’s president Lance Fischer explained how their early start in spring training allowed their signings to be completed before COVID-19 halted baseball activities.

“[It was] pure luck,” Fischer said via e-mail. “We were wrapping up the signings in Arizona a week before the players were shut down.”

With the baseball card community focused heavily on the recent 2020 Bowman Chrome release, Onyx’s product offers collectors a much more attractive entry point at $60 per four-card box. While some might balk at the boutique configuration, one box guarantees two autographs limited to a run of 200 copies per card. To more substantially enhance the chase, Onyx inserted scarce colored ink variations in green (50 copies), red (25 copies) and black (five copies).

Collectors who are looking to get ahead 2020s hobby darlings are well served to check Onyx Vintage’s set, as these cards have flown under the radar while their Bowman counterparts have risen to astronomical levels. Fischer was enthusiastic about this year’s Onyx Vintage prospect strong checklist.

“There are so many big names this year,” he said. “I always like to touch on the names who may not be on everyone’s radar yet. I’m excited about Robert Puason, Alexander Canario, George Valera, and Luis Rodriguez.”

While the up-and-comers remain 2020 Onyx Vintage Baseball’s premier attraction, Fischer added a new wrinkle from last year’s configuration. Fortunate hobbyists will find legends Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, and Ichiro among the 32 signers. Fischer explained how they were able to add such star power to their relatively compact set.

“We had established a relationship during our signings with the Onyx/Futera product,” he said. “We felt it would be great and a nice value add to add them to the 2020 product line.”

Onyx Vintage gets right to business for collectors and prospectors who do not want to wade through boxes of packs to land coveted autographs. Collectors know 2020 Onyx Vintage will deliver two autographs that are limited in quantity of front-line prospects who can easily make good on their $60 investment. With their 2020 Onyx Vintage Premium set to release in early June, Fischer hopes that collectors will continue to come back for both value and potential.

“The names added to the checklist from regular Vintage are big,” he said. “Jasson Dominguez, along with top July 2nd guys Cristian Hernandez and Carlos Colmenarez’s first autographs should make collectors pretty happy!”
