In response to a tweet that went viral from tech entrepreneur Palmer Luckey, YouTube told The Verge a glitch censored anti-communist comments from the platform.

Luckey, the founder of Oculus VR, noted the issue. The discovery was first made earlier this month on Twitter by human rights activity Jennifer Zeng. As of writing, the glitch is no longer evident on the platform.

When written in Chinese, the phrases “communist bandit” and “50 cent party” were censored by the platform in about 15 seconds. Those phrases are often seen as offensive to the CPC, the ruling government of China.

This indicates the words may have been added in YouTube’s content filters. YouTube did not censor those phases written in English.

Luckey noted the comments were filtered site-wide while the site was being used in the United States. YouTube is currently banned in China.
