by

The state’s schools are expected to reopen from July 1st for the 2020-21 academic year. This is after a meeting held by primary education minister S Suresh Kumar on Tuesday with department officials.

However there is no concrete decision that has been taken and the final decision is expected to be out in a day or two. Sources from the department said that the same was communicated to the Chief Minister.

"As we have already announced a time table for SSLC exams and the lockdown is expected to be lifted after May 31st, we are planning to reopen schools from July 1st," explained a source.

SSLC exams to be held as per schedule:

Following the recent representation by several academicians and social activists urging cancelling the SSLC exams, the primary education minister met the Chief Minister and spoke about preparations for the safe conduct of exams.

This was also discussed during Tuesday's meeting. "As of now there will not be any changes in the SSLC exams’ schedule. We have reviewed the situation following the Covid-19 pandemic and preparations are being made for the safety of the children," added a source.

Online exams:

The report submitted by NIMHANS about online education has yet to reach the secretariat. The NIMHANS director has submitted a report where he clearly denied online education for children, especially below of 6 years.
