2 families violate quarantine protocol in Ri Bhoi

by

SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union North Khasi Hills unit has alleged that two families from Bihar, who arrived in the state on May 20, have violated the lockdown and pandemic protocol by venturing out for marketing on May 22.
Corroborating the allegation, the headman of Umsawkhwan in Ri Bhoi District informed that the two families had “lied” that they stayed at NEPA but were instead living in a rented house in Umsawkhwan.
The BDO of Umsning C&RD Block has informed the KSU that the family members would be shifted to the quarantine centre at Umsning.
The union has taken exception to the quarantine violation by the two families and urged the state government and the deputy commissioner to take stringent action against them.
In another development, the KSU Umsning Circle on Monday apprehended a pick-up vehicle (AS15 AC 0594) transporting vegetables to Umsning Proper without prior permission from the village head.
The driver and helper were taken to the Umsning Police Outpost.
With the number of COVID-19 cases rising steadily in Assam, the KSU warned against entry of vehicles from outside the state without prior information to the people. KSU NKH unit president Ferdynald Kharkamni has directed all units of the union to be vigilant, especially in the Assam borders, and not allow random entry of people or vehicles into the state.
