A salesman who misused his employer's money to play online rummy and use part of it for his personal expenses has landed in trouble after his superior filed a complaint of cheating and breach of trust against him with Vastrapur police.
Harshad Shah, who works as an accountant with Saher Retail Pvt Ltd that sells handicraft products, has filed a complaint against Upendra Makwana who works as salesman at the store located at Judges Bungalow Road.
Shah told the police that Makwana would keep the sales amount collected with him and whenever the amount was big he would deposit it in the company's bank account. Before the lockdown was announced, Makwana had sales collection for February and March that amounted to Rs 4.39 lakh.
On April 15, when director of the company asked Makwana about the sales collection for February and March, he said that he had spent the money for some personal use and would return the amount soon.
When the company once again asked Makwana for the money and pointedly asked him where he had spent the money, he told his employer that he had spent some portion of the money for his personal expense, some for paying his loan and a major portion on playing online rummy.
Subsequently, a complaint was filed against Makwana under IPC Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and under IPC Section 408 (criminal breach of trust).
Commenting on the case, Vastrapur P I M M Jadeja said, "The accused is said to have spent around Rs 2.5 lakh out of the total amount for playing online rummy. We are collecting all the evidences and further investigation in the case is on."
