Ahmedabad saw 1 death each hour in past week

One person has died every hour on an average in Ahmedabad district in the past one week, according to the analysis of figures provided by the state health department. On May 19, when the lockdown rules were relaxed significantly, the death toll was 576, which shot up to 745 on May 26. Thus 169 persons died in seven day, or 24 persons each day on an average.

A day after crossing the 300-mark in terms of daily cases of Covid-19, Ahmedabad reported 251 cases on Tuesday. The total number of cases so far has reached 10,841. An additional 23 deaths were reported on Tuesday. One death each was reported in Satellite, Paldi and Gota on Tuesday. Western Ahmedabad saw fresh spike in cases with Chandkheda lone reporting 20 new cases.

361new cases, 27 deaths in Guj
The state reported 361new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, taking the tally to 14,821till now. The death toll has reached 915 with 27 more fatalities. According to the health department, the recovery rate in the state at present is 48.135, which is higher than the national average of 41.6%. A total of 503 persons were discharged from hospitals, taking the overall tally of the recovered cases to 7,137. There are now 6,777 active cases in the state.

Late, inadequate lunch at SVP, allege patients

Covid patients admitted in the B1 ward on the fifth floor of SVP Hospital have alleged that they are getting food very late. On Tuesday, lunch arrived at 2.40 pm, they claimed. According to them, this is a daily affair and causes great inconvenience, especially to those suffering from diabetes. Harsh Asrani, one of the patients admitted there, said that they get lunch any time after 2.15 pm. Also, the quantity of food is insufficient.

Wholesale markets outside containment zones reopen

Wholesale markets in Shahibaug and Kalupur wards outside containment zones are now open for business. Following representations for opening of wholesale shops in old and new Madhupura markets in Shahibaug ward, Kalupur rice market and laat bazaar by several associations, AMC commissioner Mukesh Kumar has announced that these markets have been allowed to open on condition that they will follow necessary rules and maintain social distancing.
