VIDEO: Raúl Tamudo’s clever goal in 2000 Copa del Rey final
by BeSoccerEspanyol’s legendary striker Raúl Tamudo scored this goal two minutes into the foul after a howler by keeper Toni.
Raul Tamudo is an Espanyol legend. He joined the club at the age of 15 and was with them until he moved to Real Sociedad in 2010. He scored some famous goals in the 'Tamudazo' in June 2009 which prevented city rivals Barcelona winning the league title, and he also scored in the 2000 Copa del Rey final versus Atletico Madrid.
He put them ahead inside two minutes at the Mestalla after a goalkeeping calamity. Toni was bouncing the ball on the floor when Tamudo got his head to the ball to dispossess the goalie. He then went round him before slotting home. Sergio Gonzalez increased Espanyol's lead in the 84th minute.
Despite Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink pulling one back for Atletico, Espanyol won their first Copa del Rey trophy in 60 years.
