"When 80,000 people whistle at you, the goal net becomes small"
by BeSoccerReal Madrid forward, Gareth Bale, spoke on Erik Anders Lang's golf podcast about his relationship with the Real Madrid fans. He thinks that the whistles make him mess up.
The 12th man plays an essential role in a football match. The fans can tip the balance for or against.
Real Madrid attacker, Gareth Bale, recognised that the whistles take a toll on him psychologically. "They make me feel worse, if you get whistled at, you lose your confidence," he said on Erik Anders Lang's golf podcast.
"When you miss a goal and you get whistled at, the goal net gets smaller," Gareth Bale elaborated.
And the Welshman has not had a very good time on some occasions: "I have had 80,000 people whistling at the Bernabéu and you wonder: 'What?' It's not a good thing. The first time I wondered what was going on".
Gareth Bale assures that he doesn't know why he sometimes receives whistles from the Madrid fans. "The big question is why I'm being whistled at. They should try to help me do better and thus they would be happy, but it's the opposite... You get whistled at and you feel worse, you lose confidence and you play worse... and they get even angrier", he analysed.
"In football, you can play amazing, but not score in five games, and people say you're on a horrible streak. If you know you've played well, but people say you haven't, your opinion is the most important thing. I don't care what they say", Bale ended.
He already recently spoke on this podcast about his passion, golf: "Curry plays golf on the day of a game and I can't two days before".
