Carragher recalls time he tried to punch Arbeloa

It took place in a match at West Brom in 2009 when Liverpool were trying to help Pepe Reina win the trophy awarded to the goalkeeper who concedes the least number of goals.

Michael Jordan's documentary 'The Last Dance' is still being mentioned by people from other sports. Jamie Carragher watched it during the lockdown and compared it to his own career.

He says that he shares that enormous competitive spirit with the former NBA player although he knows he was not as good as Jordan.

"He’s obviously the best player ever in basketball, I’m obviously nowhere near that in football," Carragher began on 'Sky Sports'.

"He got into rucks at times with his teammates because he went so close to the line. When you’re so passionate about something it will push you to the line, now it’s very difficult to not then cross that line," he continued.

Carragher recalled his famous fight with Arbeloa at West Brom in 2009: "I was on a football pitch and nearly struck one of my own teammates, or punched Arbeloa. Now I don’t look back at that proud, but that was always going to happen at some stage or another because you’re so intense, you wanted to win."

At that moment in time, the Englishman only wanted to help Pepe Reina win the trophy for the goalkeeper to concede the least amount of goals. Xabi Alonson had split the pair: "It was just frustration, it was over with quickly," the ex-Liverpool player concluded.
