Stranded in Singapore
RAMONA Narang and her steady-or-not beau Bhagwan Mahtani have decided to keep a low profile after being in the news for almost two years now. Ramona, we hear, was visiting Bhagwan at his Singapore home when the lockdown was announced. Now it seems the beautiful, if beleaguered, fashion designer and socialite is stranded there. Her two children with ex-husband Bruno Rodella are in Mumbai with their dad. The last we heard, the very worried mum was struggling to come back to the city, asking friends for a ride on their private jets.
Music for the soul
EARLIER this week, the very erudite Art India magazine, founded by the tasteful Sangita Jindal, hosted a talk with artist Atul Dodiya, magazine editor Abhay Sardesai and Shireen Gandhi of Chemould gallery. Much of the discussion revolved around art during the pandemic. But we were especially taken with Dodiya’s admission of how the superstar artist is spending time during lockdown. He has been listening to Radio Ceylon, the oldest radio station in Asia. “I’ve been listening to songs from the late 1940s and the 1950s, and discovering so much as far as songs from Hindi cinema are concerned.” Dodiya says to paint itself is a social act. “I think art is the only thing that will allow us to have some solace in times like these.”
Buddy talk
ANAND Chulani, the wellknown life coach based in New York, is going to be talking live with one of his pals, James Murray, the popular improv comedian and star of ‘Impractical Jokers’. Better known as ‘Murr’, the comedian and Chulani were roommates in Georgetown University and have been buddies since. “We acted in plays together. And along with two others, we co-founded the Georgetown Players Improv Group that is still around 20 years later, and has given us some well-known names in comedy. We share a common passion of helping young people,” Chulani says. Their talk, he adds, will not just be fun but also motivational.
Sunshine after the storm
WE aren’t sure if cinemas are opening anytime soon, but Bollywood producers are aching to send out a little love and laughter as early as they can. Writers and directors such as Anees Bazmee, Raaj Shandilya and Farhad Samji all tell us their phones are ringing with requests for comedy scripts. In fact, even Rohit Shetty, the master of the action-comedy genre, has decided to begin ‘Golmaal 5’ as soon as he is finished with ‘Sooryavanshi’.
Tailpiece
THAT two female actors can be anything but friends, has to be the oldest cliché. But when their careers seem to be going nowhere and they’re forced to lean on the same superstar’s shoulder, things can get turbulent. So when these two ladies recently had a spat over a trivial issue, the matter spiralled out of control and rather unsavoury words were exchanged. Luckily, their mutual male friend came around to put out the fire, just when we were about to grab our popcorn for a killer cat fight.
