Hundreds of sacred ash pots across Chhattisgarh are waiting for immersion at the holy confluence in Prayagraj (Allahabad). In a unique gesture, the Congress has taken up the responsibility of immersing these earthen pots (Asthi Kalash) of those who died during the Covid-19 induced lockdown.

The initiative is being spearheaded by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Mohan Markam.

The pots have piled up at the cremation grounds waiting for the dragging lockdown to end.

PCC General Secretary Chandrashekhar Shukla said in a statement that Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has given consent for the immersion and a special vehicle will be run from Durg to Prayagraj.

The vehicle will have stoppages in Raipur and Bilaspur. Hindu priests who will travel in the vehicle will help in the immersion, he said.

Those who want to send the sacred pots can contact the State President, Congress Seva Dal, Arun Tamrakar, on 98261 38090 and 88895 88090.
