B'pur NGO takes slew of Covid relief measures

Voluntary organisation PREM has taken a slew of initiatives to effectively contain corona virus to save precious human lives and to ensure the livelihood of the poor migrant workers at Bharat Mata Resource Center in village R Sitapur near Paralakhemundi under Gajapati district.

Significantly, the PREM has facilitated its resource center which is being used as a 150-beded Covid-19 Hospital at the request of the district administration of Gajapati district for the benefit of the general public in this crucial hour of covid-19 lockdown, said its president Jacob Thundyil.

Besides PREM, in collaboration with Ajzim Premji Philanthropic initiative, has offered humanitarian aid to migrant laborers and families coming under BPL from Goudagotha Panchayat and Asurbandha Panchayat of Surada block under Ganjam district during the crucial ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. As a part of  PREM’s humanitarian assistance, around 1,200 households from Goudagotho and 400 people from Asurbandho have been provided essential items  with kits of mask, soap, flour, Dal, flattened rice, Soya tin meal maker, sugar, Oil and spice powder etc. The relief work has successfully been accomplished in the presence and support of Surada MLA Purnna Chandra Swain and  theVice-Chairman of Surada Block, said Thundyil.

For proper implementation of the Government programme “SUGAM” meant for returnees/migrant workers coming from different States, the PREM has taken steps by providing dry foods and water bottles and such other essential items to the migrant workers, on their way to home at bus stop on  National Highway near Mandiapalli Chhak with the support of different NGOs like ARUNA, YSD, ISARA as well as in collaboration with the district administration and DRDA, Ganjam.

Further, PREM in collaboration with Missio International, a funding agency of German, also provides dry foods and sanitary items not only to the migrants, but also to the families of trolley and rickshaw pullers of Railway Station during lockdown period.
