IT TAKES TWO TIMES
Mary-Kate Olsen files for divorce from Olivier Sarkozy the day NYC courts reopen after emergency petition was denied
by Nicole ChenowethMARY-KATE Olsen has reportedly once again filed for divorce from husband Olivier Sarkozy after her emergency petition was denied earlier this month.
According to NY Daily News, the lawyers for the fashion designer were the first in the whole city to file paperwork as soon as doors opened Monday morning.
The Manhattan county clerk processed and accepted the complaint and summons filed by Mary-Kate’s attorney’s, the outlet reported.
Mary-Kate's most recent filing comes after the New York’s Office of Court Administration lifted an eight-week pause on all criminal and civil court proceedings not deemed to be essential or an emergency.
The moratorium was put in place to flatten the curve of the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis.
On May 14, New York courts spokesman Lucian Chalfen confirmed that Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael Katz decided the divorce was not essential.
The child star requested an emergency divorce order, alleging her estranged husband is forcing her out of their home and had given her a deadline of May 18 to remove her belongings from their NYC apartment.
“This application is an emergency because my husband expects me to move out of our home on Monday, May 18, 2020 in the middle of New York City being on pause due to COVID-19,” the filing read.
“I am petrified that my husband is trying to deprive me of the home we have lived in and if he is successful, I will not only lose my home but I risk losing my personal property as well."
She has also claimed that the 51-year-old French businessman terminated their lease without telling her.
Last week, it was reported the former couple clashed over their lifestyles and differences in opinion when it came to having babies.
A source close to clothing mogul told People that Olivier - who already has two grown kids - didn't want any more children, while Mary-Kate did.
"A few years ago, having a baby was not a priority for her. This has changed," the source said.
The source further explained: "Olivier has two grown kids and doesn’t want more. Mary-Kate thought he would budge on that and he hasn’t."
The informant cited their lifestyles as another reason why they broke things off so abruptly.
"Olivier is a party boy and a big spender," a source close to Olivier said. "He loves the high life."
The source close to the fashion mogul further explained: "Mary-Kate prefers to be quiet and alone and doing the things she likes.
"She’s not that interested in socializing - she likes small gatherings with select people. They ended up being apart quite a bit."
Olivier and Mary-Kate tied-the-knot in November 2015 after three years of dating.
