Nigeria coronavirus cases exceed 8,000

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Monday announced 229 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 8,068.

NCDC also announced that seven persons died from the virus complications in the last 24 hours. Totally, 233 have died as a result of the virus complication.

According to NCDC, the 229 new cases are reported from 15 states with Lagos having 90 cases.

Katsina has 27, Imo had new 26 cases while 23 new people were infected in Kano.

NCDC said Abuja got 14 new cases of the coronavirus while Plateau had 12 new cases, Ogun State had nine new cases.

In Delta, seven new people were confirmed coronavirus positive while Borno and Rivers also had five new cases each.

Oyo State got four new cases, Gombe admitted three new cases, Osun also confirmed two new cases. Anambra and Bayelsa got one new case each

While new cases continue to increase, NCDC has cautioned older people and those with pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes and cancer, to observe all the necessary precautionary measures as they are at a higher risk of complications from COVID-19.

It also advised Nigerians to ensure proper hand hygiene, physical distancing and wearing a mask especially around vulnerable groups.

The numbers are expected to rise as the NCDC increases testing capacity.
