Hyderabad: India Code, an online legal repository of the Central and State legislations seems to have few takers from the two Telugu States. It may be mentioned here that an e-repository of all the legislative acts relating to the Centre, States and Union Territories have been created under name of 'India Code' by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). The initiative was launched under Digital India to provide authentic content and the content of the repository has been provided by various ministries, departments of the Central government and the States.

Speaking to The Hans India, a NIC official said that as the mission statement of the India Code says 'India Code' e-database has the enactments of the Centre with their subordinate legislations, which have come into force from time to time. It was meant for the general public as well as the legal fraternity, students, researchers to retrieve any of the central legislations, with relevant subordinate legislations on a click of a mouse. That apart, it also provides similar facility in case of the enactments of the states and union territories, he added.

The India Code analytics claim that it has 10.5 crore hits by 24 lakh plus users with 10,452,307 page views. Of these, the repository has generated 17 per cent of hits from the Delhi, followed by Maharashtra with 15.4. Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh come in third and fourth positions with 7.4 per cent, respectively.

The geographical hits indicator analytics shows Telangana in the fifth position with 6.3 per cent and Gujarat with 5.5 per cent hits stood in the sixth position. That apart, the hit percentage of the legal database from the states of Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Haryana shows less than 4 per cent of hits. Nearly, 20.7 per cent of hits generated comprises different states and union territories.

The NIC official said that the e-repository has the enactments of 7,322 central, state and union territories. However, only 357 central, state and UT acts have been most viewed for more than 1000 times. "Of these, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 topped the viewership with 1,37,507 accessed it, followed by Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 with 100,382 views" he added.

In case of Telangana, people viewed only two enactments for more than 1000 times. They are the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988 (1,454 views) and Telangana Panchayat Raj Act, 2018 (2,908 views). Similarly, the most viewed legislations from Andhra Pradesh are the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014(8,350 views), Andhra Pradesh Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfers) (Amendment) Act, 2019 (6,146 views) and the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Andhra Pradesh Amendment) Act, 2018 (2,230 views).
