Warren to host big-dollar fundraiser for Biden after swearing off such events during primary

Sen. Elizabeth Warren will host a high-dollar fundraiser for presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden despite distancing herself from such events while she ran for president.

The online fundraiser is scheduled for June 15, according to the New York Times.

Warren vowed not to attend private fundraisers or seek contributions from wealthy donors while she was still competing for the Democratic nomination.

“That means no fancy receptions or big money fundraisers only with people who can write the big checks,” she said in an email to supporters at the time. “It means that wealthy donors won’t be able to purchase better seats or one-on-one time with me at our events. And it means I won’t be doing ‘call time,’ which is when candidates take hours to call wealthy donors to ask for their support.”

Her fundraising took off after the pledge, and she raised nearly $116 million during her campaign, more than half of which came from donors who gave less than $200.

She then criticized her Democratic rivals, including Biden, for attending the swanky events.

The Massachusetts Democrat dropped out of the race in March and endorsed Biden in April.
