Frankie Edgar vs. Pedro Munhoz targeted for UFC’s July 11th show

Pedro Munhoz is getting his wish.

MMA Fighting reported that the veteran bantamweight contender will welcome former UFC lightweight champion and multi-time featherweight title challenger Frankie Edgar to the 135 lbs division. The matchup is slated for July 11th, which was penciled in as UFC 251 but hasn’t officially been confirmed that it will remain as such.

The 38-year-old Edgar (23-8-1) is on a two-fight losing streak, having lost his title bout with then featherweight champion Max Holloway last July, followed by a short-notice drubbing at the hands of Chan Sung Jung in South Korea later that December. “The Answer” had intended to move down to bantamweight to face Cory Sandhagen prior to his showdown with “The Korean Zombie,” and stated that he’d still go to bantamweight even after facing Jung.

Munhoz (18-4-1 NC) was riding a three-fight winning streak entering last June’s big showdown with Aljamain Sterling. The Brazilian ended up losing a unanimous decision and he has not competed since then. He has notably beaten Rob Font, former champion Cody Garbrandt, and Bryan Caraway towards his run towards the top of a stacked weight class. He did call out Frankie Edgar and Urijah Faber for his return, and now he’ll get that opportunity to face Edgar this summer.

No main event has been announced for the July 11th card.
