NELA Veterans Cemetery hosts annual Memorial Day ceremony
by Reggie WellsRAYVILLE, La. (KNOE) - The Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery hosted its annual ceremony Monday to honor veterans this Memorial Day.
The service included words of remembrance, prayer and the raising of the flags. The service was privately held for family members only and shortened to maintain safety due to COVID-19. Attendees were also asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
Director Tim Johnson says it was important they do what they could to honor those who sacrifice their lives. “Today is a special day for our men and women who served and lost their lives, and to them, we just want to say thank you,” Johnson says.
Flags were placed at each grave at the cemetery. Each name was also read aloud to honor them.
