Man, 43, charged with murder after body found in Plymouth

A man has today been charged with murder after the body of a 49-year-old man was found on Beaumont Road in Plymouth.

A 43-year-old Plymouth man has been charged with murder after officers were called to the terraced property on Friday at shortly after 4pm following reports of a man who was "unconscious with injuries". It is understood he died at the scene.

Two people were arrested on Saturday but a woman, 24, has been released from Charles Cross Police Station without charge.

Another Plymouth woman, aged 40, has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and released on bail.

Police have thanked the community for their support with the investigation.

Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement: "Detectives investigating the death of a 49-year-old man who was discovered deceased on Beaumont Road on Friday May 22 have this evening, Monday May 25, charged a man in connection with the death.

"Simon Wotton, aged 43 and from Plymouth, has today been charged with Murder.

"He will appear before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 26 May.

"A 24-year-old woman from Plymouth who had initially been arrested has today been released without charge.

"Detectives from the Major Crime Team have also arrested a 40-year-old woman from Plymouth on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. She has been interviewed at Charles Cross police station and released on police bail.

"Officers would like to thank the local community for their support and would like anybody who has information that they feel could assist the investigation to make contact.

Witnesses saw a large number of officers, both uniformed and plain clothes, at the scene on Friday night and during Saturday, with Scene of Crime officers in white protective full-body suits entering the property.
