Drag Race Battle: C8 Corvette Vs. 900-HP Jeep Trackhawk

Place your bets.

Why does something as ridiculously excessive as a 707-horsepower SUV exist? To take on supercars, of course. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk in this video takes on a bone stock Chevrolet Corvette C8. Nicknamed "The General", this Trackhawk has a bit of an unfair advantage, however. Not only is it a four-wheel-drive machine unlike the C8, this one is far from stock, with around 900 hp going to the wheels. If you know your specs, you'll know that this is around double what the Vette has under its hood. Then again, the C8 is much lighter. So place your bets and then watch the video below to see if you were right. Skip to 12:27 if you want to get straight to the racing.

So, as you can see, weight plays a big role, but grip is just as important. With the Trackhawk in RWD mode, the semi-slick tires were almost useless. The General short shifts its way down the track and never sees the Corvette again. When the owner goes back to 4WD and races the Trackhawk properly, the Corvette disappears in its mirrors and looks like it's standing still. We don't know what kind of cost analysis, if any, was done before embarking on the 900-hp build of this Jeep, but it's still very interesting to see what the right modifications can do to a vehicle that would otherwise struggle against a bona fire supercar.

As quick as The General is, you may also have noticed that the color is something different. Called Green Metallic Clearcoat, this $245 olive-like hue is very rare thanks to most buyers choosing shades of red or gray, making this one-of-a-kind Trackhawk even more special. The real question here, though, is this: Would you rather have a practical, spacious, huge-horsepower SUV that can take down Corvettes, or would you prefer to lose but look good doing it in a C8? For us, it's a difficult choice, but there's certainly something cool about hurting something as exotic and special as a new Vette.
