After spending the past season on loan with Chippa United, the Siya crew has learnt that young defender Sandile Mthethwa could be heading back to Pirates at the end of the current season.

The 23-year-old defender played just six games for Chippa United in 2019/20, though a host of injuries and a red card in the second last Absa Premiership game halted his progress.

According to Siya Sources, the last few games of the season could prove crucial for the Richards Bay-born junior international, to determine whether the Chilli Boys will try to hold onto him beyond his loan deal, which expires on June 30.

It is not the first time that the young defender has been loaned out though; he featured in 22 National First Division games for Richards Bay FC in 2018/19.

The Buccaneers have identified the young defender as one for the future, and having made his top flight debut in the colors of the Chilli Boys, it remains to be seen whether they feel Mthethwa is ready to step into the senior Bucs team when his loan deal with the Port Elizabeth outfit comes to an end.

The defender has represented South Africa at U20, U23 and senior level already. He played a crucial role in helping South Africa win the COSAFA Cup plate at the tournament in Mzansi in June 2019.
