All is not well with Shona (Picture: ITV)

Where has Shona been in Coronation Street and what is wrong with her?

Coronation Street is welcoming a familiar face back to Weatherfield in the shape of Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) after a few months away.

However it’s set to be a challenging time for Shona when she does return – as she’s unable to recogniser her surroundings or anyone around her – not even husband David (Jack P Shepherd) or her son – and is set to give her loved ones a scare when she disappears.

It’s clear that all is not well with the character – but just where has she been and what happened to her?

Here’s what you need to know…

Where has Shona been in Coronation Street?

Shona has been absent from Coronation Street after the character was shot on Christmas Day by Derek Milligan (Craige Els) during the siege at the Rovers Return – leaving her in a coma.

She was left fighting for her life and in a coma after the shooting – with the character having been moved to a specialist unit in Leeds for treatment as she began to recover.

Her absence from the soap coincided with actress Julia Goulding taking a break from Corrie while she was on maternity leave.

Julia went on leave from the soap in November and confirmed the arrival of her son Franklin Wolf – her first child with husband Ben Silver – later that month

‘Franklin Wolf Silver born on 30/11/19. He’s changed our lives for the better in every way. I feel like I’ve known him my whole life,’ she said in an Instagram post.

What is wrong with Shona?

Although Shona has left hospital, she suffered a brain injury in the shooting which has left her unable to remember much of her previous life – including the fact she is married to David, leading her to ask him for a divorce.

Despite the rocky road ahead – kicking off with her disappearance this week – producer Ian McLeod has teased a happy ending for the couple.

‘At the bottom of it all is a love story really – it’s interesting to see two characters who have been in love for years have to fall in love all over again when one has had a brain damage that has changed their personality,’ he told metro.co.uk.

‘Nobody has a long term desire to split them up so they will have a happy ending. They’re like cheese and crackers – none are good without the other. But it’s a very unique and emotionally complicated story.’

Coronation Street continues tonight on ITV at 7.30pm.
