Mary-Kate Olsen has finally been able to file for divorce from Olivier Sarkozy after the courts in New York reopened.

The couple split in April, but their plans to divorce were put on hold because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Former child star Mary-Kate, 33, tried to obtain an emergency order to proceed with the divorce despite New York's courts being closed, but her request was denied.

However, the Big Apple's legal system got up and running again today and Mary-Kate was finally able to filed paperwork to end her marriage.

Filings are being accepted electronically, and New York Post gossip column Page Six reports Mary-Kate lodged hers with Manhattan Supreme CourtĀ fist thing Monday morning.

The star previously tried to obtain an emergency order to end the marriage amid claims Sarkozy, 50, brother of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, tried to kick her out of their apartment.

Reports suggested he had terminated the lease on the multi-million dollar NYC home they shared and she's said to have claimed the exit date of May 18 did not leave her with enough time to find a place of her own.

The Full House star reportedly asked the lawyers for an extension until May 30 and filed a divorce petition in a bid to be protected from eviction.

The pair - who have a 17-year age gap - began dating in 2012 and later tied the knot in 2015 during an intimate ceremony in new York.

It was Mary-Kate's first trip down the aisle, while Sarkozy was divorced with two kids from his previous marriage.

There has been plenty of speculation about the reasons behind the couple's split, and last week it was claimed they parted ways after clashing over plans to start a family.

PEOPLE Magazine reported Mary-Kate wanted to have a baby, while dad-of-two Sarkozy was less keen.

A source told the publication: "A few years ago, having a baby was not a priority for [Mary-Kate]. This has changed."
