A man was the victim of an attempted robbery after he pulled over to assist a motorcyclist at the side of the road.

On May 22, at around 5.10pm, a motorcyclist signalled for help from a passing black Mercedes in Ayrshire on the A719, near Tarbolton.

The driver of the car pulled over to assist, when a second motorcyclist arrived and smashed the driver's window in attempt to steal items from the front passenger side.

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

Detective Sergeant Craig Semple, of Ayr CID, said: "Thankfully the driver of the vehicle was left uninjured as a result of this incident and managed to drive away safely.

"We are now looking for the public's assistance to help trace those involved.

"If you were travelling on the A719 around this time and noticed anything suspicious, I would ask that you get in contact with police.

"I would also ask anyone with possible dashcam footage to get in touch with officers."
