by Darwin G. AmojelarGlobe Telecom Inc. saw an increase in mobile wallet users amid the enhanced community quarantine in the country.
Globe said the number of installations of GCash App rose 200 percent from March 15 to April 15 while the app registrations jumped 250 percent in the same period, making it one of the five most downloaded apps on Android.
“This surge was driven primarily by the people’s need for contactless alternatives to sending money and paying bills,” Globe said.
GCash teamed up with government agencies and local government units for money distribution such as the Social Amelioration Program for Angkas, Joyride and Grab riders of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB); and Makati’s Makatulong 5K for 500,000 residents. It also serves as a donation platform for various private and non-government organizations.
