Tilda Swinton says it's 'right time' for Snowpiercer TV reboot after 2013 film
by George GriffithsTilda Swinton has said that now is ‘the right time’ for a Snowpiercer TV series.
The Oscar-winning actress starred in the original 2013 film on which the show is based, in which she acted alongside Captain America himself, Chris Evans.
Snowpiercer’s plot follows the last dregs of humanity, who circle the Earth on a constantly moving mega-train, following an apocalypse-like event, where the Earth is left an icy wasteland.
In the film, the Doctor Strange star played Minister Mason, the train’s second-in-command.
Now, speaking to the Independent, Swinton says that the cinematic version was sadly ahead of its time.
‘However frustrating the delay has been for us,’ she says, ‘this release is simply the result we always looked forward to: the right time for our film.’
Snowpiercer in its original form was directed by Bong Joon-ho, who this year won the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director for Parasite.
‘Parasite will have gathered countless new admirers to Bong’s work, so Snowpiercer can be the beneficiary of this new following,’ the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe actress adds.
None of the film’s stars – Swinton, Evans or Westworld’s Ed Harris – have a role in the new TV series, which is considered a soft reboot.
Instead, the serial is headed up by Requiem for a Dream’s Jennifer Connelly.
Snowpiercer episodes 1 and 2 are available to stream now via Netflix.
