Hutchison says Havertz is a ‘taller, faster version of Ozil’

Havertz is a better Ozil and would be perfect for Liverpool, says Don Hutchison

Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison says Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz is a ‘taller, faster version of Mesut Ozil’ and would be a perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The 20-year-old has been in fine form since the Bundesliga’s resumption, scoring four goals in his last two appearances.

Havertz has attracted the interest of a whole host of Europe’s elite clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea in the Premier League.

Ex-Reds midfielder Hutchison backed the Germany international to walk into any top team and compared his playing style to that of Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.

‘I think he’s far too good for Leverkusen. I think he goes to the very biggest clubs in Europe and I think he walks into most sides,’ he told ESPN FC.

‘He’s certainly got to fight for his place but the talent’s there at 20 years of age.

‘The one player I would liken him to is a taller, faster version of Mesut Ozil. I think he plays off the left-hand side, through the middle, he’s predominantly left-footed, he’s very silky, easy on the eye.

‘So again, yes Liverpool would be a great fit, but even Barca rate him that highly they are willing to trade three players for him.’

Havertz bagged a brace in Leverkusen’s 3-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday, but remained coy when answering the inevitable questions on his future.

‘I do not like to say, of course, that there is a lot of speculation,’ he told Sky after the Gladbach game.

‘I’m concentrating on the season and we will see what happens afterwards.

‘I am very grateful to Leverkusen and I don’t want to mess it up in any way.’
