Man arrested after he filmed himself 'brutalizing nursing home patient, 75'
by Jacob GeanousA 20-year-old man was arrested after he filmed himself brutally beating a 75-year-old nursing home patient.
Jaden Hayden was charged with two counts of assault with the intent to do bodily harm, larceny and stealing/ retaining a financial transaction without consent for attacking the man, identified as Norman Bledsoe, and stealing his credit cards, police said.
Hayden’s arrest comes after footage of him attacking Bledsoe at the Westwood Nursing Home in Detroit, Michigan on May 10 surfaced on social media.
According to the nursing home’s attorney’s, Hayden was staying at the facility, although he ‘is not a long-term resident of Westwood, but was recently admitted for recover and rehabilitation purposes on a temporary stay.’
Footage from the attack shows Hayden repeatedly punching Bledsoe, who was reportedly covered in blood following the beating. Hayden can also be heard telling Bledsoe to, ‘Get the fuck off my bed,’ during the horrific attack.
Bledsoe was taken to a local hospital after the incident and Hayden told nursing home staff that he fell out of his bed – then posted videos of the beating on social media, which sparked outrage across the country – even from President Donald Trump.
‘Is this even possible to believe? Can this be for real? Where is this nursing home, how is the victim doing,’ Trump tweeted Thursday in response to the video.
Hayden was charged and arraigned on Sunday. He is reportedly being held on a $300,000 bond.
‘The alleged actions of this defendant are truly and uniquely disturbing. We must be able to trust our loved ones in specialty care facilities. I truly hope that the facts of this case are one of a kind,’ Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement.
